Paris is burning!?

What is it with burning cities that artists love so much? Ohwell, I don't care, because the songs are usually good. Ladyhawke's "Paris is burning" is a terrific example of this. Ladyhawke is a New Zealand artist whose music is straight from the 80's. Synth and electro all around, with a beautiful captivating voice. It's really fun music. Think "Cars" by Gary Newman meets the Yeah Yeah Yeahs (hell, the music vid for "Paris is burning" is similar to "Zero").

Throwback Thursday: Dinosaurs

"Not the Mama!" That's right, for today's Throwback Thursday, I bring unto you, "Dinosaurs." It's essentially "Family Matters," except in the stone age. The dad, yeah, straight up Carl. Earl, ha! Not fooling us. But, I loved "Family Matters," so ofcourse I love "Dinosaurs." The show is available on DVD too.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs - It's Blitz

A few months ago, the new Yeah Yeah Yeahs album "It's Blitz" came out. I just got a hold of it and it's pretty good. You might remember the song "Maps" from a few years back (it's also on Rock Band and fun as hell to play). I suggest you check it out. They were on the cover of "Spin" a few months ago. Here are a few tracks from the new cd:

"Zero" the first single from the album:

Funny Faces

This is a really cool caricature sculpture artist I found. The likenesses are hilarious, and ontop of that, they are sculptures too! It's by an artist named David O'Keefe. His works have been seen on Sports Illustrated, Sports Illustrated for Kids, Mad and Time. He's also done work in advertising too for clients such as Coca-Cola and Waffle House.

David Bowie (read last entry for more on Bowie):

5 Things you probably didn't know about David Bowie:

5.) His real name is David Jones (to not be confused with Davy Jones).
4.) He went to school with Peter Frampton.
3.) His right pupil is permanently dilated because when he was young, he got into a fight (over a girl).
2.) David Bowie is also a renowned painter (he also played in "Basquiat" as Andy Warhol). Check it out at Bowieart.com.
1.) He's not all glam rock!

David Bowie is probably my favorite musician. Funny story though, no one knows of his later career. Sure in the 70s it was all glam rock, but later he found a new sound. This is the time period I like best of his. In the 90's he had a more contemporary electronic rock feel. No skin tight spandex or face paint here guys. So to get the word out there and hopefully spread my enjoyment, here are a few of my favorites of his from the last 10-15 years.

"Dead Man Walking" My favorite song, period. (Side note, this song was in the movie "The Saint." It was played on Val Kilmer's cd player):

"Jump They Say" I want a suit like this:

"Survive" (cool a surreal video):

"Little Wonder" (weird, but still cool)":

"Never Get Old" (from his newest album "Reality"):

Yet one more reason why Indiana is amazing. A guy tries to rob an Indiana gas station with a machete:

Your Mod Spot

I am both pumped and excited for this. Let me introduce the new AAF aggregator blog, yourmodspot.blogspot.com. This is the "aggroblog" bringing together all of my BSU chapter's AAF members blogs into an easy-to-access blog. Just open it up and bingo, there ya go. Not only are mine there, but so are many of my friend's. This is going to be a fun way for us to keep in touch and see what's on everyone's minds as we continue through college and as we move away.
